Cebu Pacific carries 20 millionth passenger
Cebu Pacific (CEB), the Philippines’ leading domestic carrier and low fare leader, carried its 20 millionth passenger in April 2007.
The airline which started its operation in March 1996 has increased its yearly passenger traffic from 360,000 in 1996 to almost 3.5 million passengers in 2006. CEB is projecting to increase passenger carriage by 45% and carry more than 5 million passengers this year.
Candice Iyog, CEB VP for marketing and product announced, “We are very happy with the attainment of the 20 million mark and we know that this is a significant milestone in CEB’s history. This is a continued manifestation of CEB’s thrust to bring air travel closer to more Filipinos.”
“Through our year round affordable ‘Go’ fares, we are able to encourage those who have never traveled by air to do so and visit their families and friends. Many of the Filipinos who travel once a year can now travel twice or thrice a year with our very low fare offering,” Iyog added.
CEB recently added milestones to its history by offering new products online which included car rental services and travel insurance to its passengers. Its website, www.cebupacificair.com also registered as the country’s leading travel website as of May 2, 2007.
Iyog explained that “We are hopeful that we will be able to achieve our guest traffic target and we’ve been on track so far. We will continue to further improve our products and services to ensure that more and more Filipinos will make CEB their airline of choice as we make travel more convenient, affordable and fun.”
“We have taken a little more than 12 years to carry the first twenty million guests. Based on our growth plans we expect to carry the next 20 million in just 3-4 years and that can only be good for the continued growth of air travel and tourism in the Philippines and the region,” Iyog further explained.
Now in its 12th year, CEB has the youngest fleet in the Philippines at just one year. CEB continues to operate 14 Airbus aircraft to its 20 domestic and soon to be 8 international destinations with the addition of Taipei beginning June 13, 2007.
